Feeling inspired

I have lots of new and exciting things planned for my blog over the next month and I hope to start implementing some of them soon, but the need to secure an apartment and get settled in has rather over taken this and I’m finding the creative side of my head just isn’t engaging while my home a hotel room.  I can’t wait to move into our apartment and to start building a work space.

Not having an apartment to move into does have some benefits though.  Like being free to explore our new city and start to get our bearings.  So at the weekend, we did just that, we spent a little time driving around learning where everything is, and then visited the palace.  The last time we were in India I couldn’t get enough of the palaces and the stunning colours and patterns that hid inside them, so yes, this time I got a wee bit snap happy.  I won’t bore you with them all, but here are my favourites…

I'm definitely feeling inspired to start designing again...just need to get a creative space sorted first!

Looking For A Place To Live

It’s been a while since I’ve done an outfit post.  My clothes have been all over the place the last few weeks.  First they were sifted through and organised into clothes to take to India and ones to stay in the UK.  Next they were split into clothes to take with me on the plane, and clothes to be shipped by sea that I could do without for up to 2 months.  And finally I had to decide which clothes I’d want to use in the first couple of weeks at the hotel and pack them into one case so that I wouldn’t have to rummage around three cases to find what I was looking for.

It took me ages to work out what to take.  For starters the weather had gone back to being cold, making it hard to believe that I wouldn’t need any chunky knits or a coat.  And secondly, I realised that my summer wardrobe was skeletal…even in the middle of summer I’d be complaining that I’m cold, so I never really had any need for really summery clothes before now.  A couple of rushed shopping trips later and I had managed to pull together mini collection of clothes that I hope will create a huge selection of outfits.  So far, it’s not let me down.
On Wednesday afternoon, Al finished work early and joined me on the hunt for an apartment.  I think we may have found one we like; it overlooks a park and has three big balconies that are just in line with the tops of the trees.  There are more places to see yet, but this one is a big contender.
After the brilliant Ms Tina had finished showing us around, we went for a walk to see what the area was like.  It’s a little quieter than most areas and has some great little cafes and shops around, as well as the local sellers on the side of the road, it was buzzing.
I’ve not been too keen on showing a lot of skin, it’s so hot here, but I get enough attention as it is without bearing all.  This dress works quite well; I spotted it in TK Maxx, and instantly liked the vintage feel and long hem.
Dress from TK Maxx, belt from Topshop, bag from Zara, scarf from Miss Selfridge, cuff from Topman, shoes from Office.
While Alex was taking the photos I spotted a sleeping dog and couldn’t help taking a picture with her.

Pages From An Old Travel Journal

I’ve been to India before, about 10 years ago when Al and I went travelling after Uni.  We travelled for four months, so not for a long time but long enough to see a little of Australia, New Zealand, America, and India.  India was my favourite place by far; we travelled around the south and then headed north on a ridiculously long train journey. The colours, people, food and atmosphere, it was inspiring.

I’m not normally a diary kinda girl, I tried writing one at boarding school but didn't really get anywhere. I had friends who would religiously write pages and pages in theirs every evening but I could never think what to write so in the end I gave up.  When we went travelling, I decided to give it another go…this time it was more of a scrap book than a diary, I filled it with tickets, flyers and sketches.

I took a heap of photos too, but the drawings evoke the strongest memories…I can remember exactly where I was, how I felt and what I was thinking.  I don’t think a photo can have the same effect; I’m probably too wrapped up in trying to capture the perfect image to take in the moment.

I found my sketchbooks while we were un-packing and re-packing our things, to have them shipped to India.
I’ve decided to start another while we’re here, some friends gave us a leather bound notebook that’s it’s just crying out to be filled with tickets and sketches.  I may show you show you some when I start, but for now, here are some pages from my old ones.
Do you like to keep a diary (other than your online one of course!) do you write or sketch in it?

Bangalore!

Wow, two whole weeks have passed since my last post!  I said I might struggle to write anything for a while, but I hadn’t expected it would take me this long to get back to my blog.  After a long journey, that took even longer than that thanks to a missed flight (thanks Air France, for taking off early and leaving 15 passengers behind at Paris airport!!!!) and a 24 hour wait for the next available flight.  We arrived at Bangalore airport at midnight, to 30 degrees heat (yes...that hot at that time of night) and thankfully, all seven suitcases.

We’ve been here for a couple of days now, and I’d like to say that I’ve been exploring and meeting people, but to be honest the first day was spent catching up on some much needed sleep.  And the second, some more sleep followed by a walk to Al’s office to see how easy and far it would be for him to walk there on his first day.  Turns out it’s only about 10 minutes away which is ace.

We’re staying at a hotel for a couple of weeks until we find an apartment to live in, the hotel is great – it’s clean, modern, has a roof terrace and gym, and serves great food but it’s not the same as having your own space.  So my first mission is to find an apartment. My second is to find a good stationers where I can buy a big book of blank paper (I hate ruled paper) so I can start to plan my blog for the next month.   But for now, I have a ton of emails that have been sitting in my inbox for way too long to reply to.

Here are some photos from life in Bangalore so far…
