Lusting Lately : Statement Rings

Living in India is having more of an influence on my style than I thought it would.  I’ve always liked chunky statement jewellery, but since living in Bangalore my jewellery has just gotten bigger and bigger My current favourite is giant, attention grabbing rings; they’re such an easy way to add personality to your style and are a great way to make a statement!  Most of these rings are from Indian designers, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of reach - most of the websites ship to the UK, hurrah!

Lou's Look Book

Last week I came across Lou’s plea for help on her beautiful blog Little Green shed.   She was having a bit of a wardrobe dilemma and was after some direction to help her develop her style. She’d pulled together a wardrobe wish list but was having trouble sourcing this is what I do for a living and I love it, so I couldn’t resist helping.

Her criteria was:
* stylish
* cool
* well made (i.e. not going to fall apart after a few washes)
* timeless (I want to buy now and wear it still in 5 years time)
* not too young (I'm middle aged don't you know! and no using the word mutton)
* yet good for my low budget

And her wish list was:
1. A good breton top (loose fit, good quality fabric, traditional French in style)
2. An emerald green cardigan / top
3. A tunic dress with pockets (navy)
4. Denim shirt
5. Leopard print pumps
6. Swedish hasbeen ankle boots
7. Several beaded necklaces
9. A long black skirt

It’s quite a list of things and not unlike what I’d normally be sourcing for my clients, so after about an hour of searching online, I pulled together this look book for her using Polyvore (if you’ve not heard of Polyvore, head over and take a look, I use it SO much for clients and my can follow me here).

Wardrobe wish list

I’ve been sharing my latest lusts with you recently, but wouldn’t it be ace if you shared yours with me so that I could pull together a little style file for you like I did for Lou?!   I’m not talking complete wardrobe overhauls…you need to see me here for that, but if you’re looking for a little guidance on how to wear the neon trend, or where to find your perfect LBD then ask me!  Either, comment below or email me here.  Go on, what’s stopping you?!

Pretty Inspired : Tangerine And Shades Of Green

How stunning are these colours?!  They’re the perfect combination!

I'm not sure what the flower is called, we have it growing all over the walls outside our apartment in Frazer Town.  It's almost like an Indian Honeysuckle.

Bangalore is in full bloom at the moment, the trees are beautiful and the colours are stunning.  I know this is going to sound SO cheesy but they make me so happy!  Colours do that to me you know - make me happy, some colours bring the biggest smile to my face!

Quick Question...

I'm going to the hairdresser for the first time in 6 months tomorrow.  My fringe is sooooooooooooooooo long now that it’s not really a fringe at all!  I can't decide whether to get one cut back in or not.  Fringe or no fringe?  I've been on Pinterest for some ideas, you can check them out here

Three Ways To Wear :Denim Shirt

This denim shirt is a relatively new addition to my wardrobe. It hadn’t occurred to me that I might get chilly over here, I mean it’s India, it’s hot all the time right?!  Well, I guess that after 10 months of living here I’ve become accustomed to the weather…so much so that I now have a blanket over our sofa so we can snuggle under it in the evenings.  Madness!

When I snapped up this shirt I don’t think I realised quite how versatile it would be.  It’s quickly become a wardrobe staple for me out here, I through it on over most outfits as it’s the perfect weight to keep me warm enough without getting too hot.  Don’t you love it when you discover a whole new collection of outfits just by adding one new piece to the mix!

Pretty Inspired

I’m a pretty disorganised person, well except for when it comes to my business…and my wardrobe, but pretty much every other aspect of my life is nothing more than organised mess at the best of times.  One thing that’s really been bothering me lately is the jumble of ‘stuff’ cluttering my desk and gathering dust.

I’ve always been someone who takes photos, collects magazine cuttings and makes notes of things that inspire me, but my disorganised nature means that I hoard them rather than actually doing anything with them.  I went on holiday to Portugal over a year ago with my husband and his parents; I must have taken hundreds of photos of beautiful tiles only to file them away on my computer never to be seen again!  Enough is enough, I’m exploring designing again and am in a really creative place at the moment - the time has come to try and bring this mess into something I can actually draw from.  So, from now on, I’ll store them on my blog instead. I think it’ll be the perfect place!

And what better way to start than posting some of those pretty tiles :)

Lusting Lately: Indian Fashion

It wasn’t going to be long before I just had to share with you, the contemporary Indian Fashions I’m lusting over.   There are so many designers that I think are brilliant, that I’m now starting to think that this one post doesn’t really do them justice…no doubt I’ll come back and revisit this later on.  But for now, here is a collection of my favourite pieces from some of my favourite Indian designers.  I never tire of their incredible use of colour, pattern and bold shapes…we could all seriously do with an injection of Indian fashion in our wardrobes!

Indian Style

In my last Lusting Lately I asked for a little feedback and I had a couple of suggestions.  Nick commented suggesting that my Lusting Lately posts could be about the stuff I see out here rather than home.   And Katy suggested getting readers to share their style wish lists with me so I could help them achieve the look or show them how to team it with something else.  I have to say I LOVE both ideas! So, this Lusting Lately is the first of many Indian Lusts and (I’ll post more about this later) if you have a style wish list that you want help bringing into reality then get in touch!

Something New

So I may have been away from Hip Shapes And Bristol Fashion for a few weeks, but I’ve not been neglecting it entirely.  While things may have been a little quiet on the posting front (mainly thanks to my computer being hacked) I have actually been planning.  I have!

I’ve been wanting to come up with some kind of schedule for the blog, or at least some regular features for you to enjoy for a while now.  My Three Way’s To Wear feature is the closest I’ve come to this, but I’ve found it harder than I thought to do this on a monthly basis as my wardrobe is fairly limited over here in India.  I’m not about to stop these posts, but I now know that trying to make it a regular monthly feature just isn’t realistic and that by promising to do something regularly and then not, I’m only disappointing myself and you.

But, while I realised that my Three Ways To Wear posts weren't going to be as regular as I had hoped, I also realised that the time had come to introduce some new features.  Regular ones, to be precise.  So I’ve decided to give it a whirl – stop thinking about it and to just get on with it - Here is the first of two (yes TWO) new features: Lusting Lately.

I’ve noticed other bloggers sharing their weekly wishes and current crushes and think it’s a great way to keep a record of all the mini trends and clothes that catch their eye and inspire them to develop their own style. Lusting Lately will be very similar to this, not only will it be a sort of online ‘style bible’ for me, it will also be a great tool to help me to introduce you to new items, trends and styles.  Anyway, that’s enough introducing, I’ll shut up and get posting…

For my very first post I’m featuring these beauties…floral printed biker jackets.  How stunning are these?  They’re edgy but feminine – my style all over!

Printed Biker Jackets

I actually spotted a jacket like this ages ago but couldn’t find it anywhere and totally forgot about it. But last week I was searching for something online for a client, when the River Island jacket popped up and I fell for it, completely.  I know, I know, we’re coming into spring so you’re probably thinking it’s not the right time of year for something like this, but you’d be wrong.  Jackets like this make the transition from winter to spring effortless. I love layering them over little summer dresses and they look stunning with coloured skinny’s that are fast becoming a wardrobe staple! I can't justify buying a  jacket like this while I'm living in India, but I reckon I could do a spot of diy printing on an old jacket :)

There you have it, my very first regular feature!  I’d love to know what you think…not just about my new feature, but about this type of post in general.  Do you get board of them pretty quickly or is it something you enjoy seeing?
